A Friendly Reminder.
I want to tell you about my friend Greg.
Greg stays in our overnight shelter at Breakthrough. He's got to be one of my favorite people. He's always smiling, always willing and ready to joke and laugh, and he gets stuff done. He does his daily assigned chores without complaining (a rare and much appreciated trait). If he's got a problem, he asks about it rather than getting in my face and complaining.
It seems like nothing gets Greg down.
This morning as the guys were waking up he greeted the several remaining men by name, wishing us all a good morning. He meant it too. It is a good morning.
From a superficial standpoint, Greg has few reasons to be happy. He's homeless, jobless, and shares a room with 29 other guys. That's a less-than-ideal situation.
So I asked Greg how he keeps on the "sunny-side" (if you will). In sum this is what he said...
"God blesses us with a new day. It's a chance to do something positive, something better than yesterday. If you spend it complaining, you waste it. And that's not cool."
It's good to be reminded of stuff like that.
Peace.
